Tideway named as one the most influential companies in the world
Tideway, the company behind the super sewer, has been recognised as one of the world’s most influential businesses after being named in TIME Magazine’s TIME100 Companies 2026 list.
The super sewer has been fully operational since February 2025 and is designed to protect the River Thames from sewage pollution now and for generations to come.
In its annual ranking, TIME listed Tideway as one of the top ten companies globally for Design & Build, highlighting the scale and impact of the project – not just on the health of the Thames, but also in its development of new public realm.
Deputy CEO Matt Parr said: “This recognition belongs to the tens of thousands of people who have worked over many years to deliver one of the most complex infrastructure projects ever built in the UK.
“It’s fantastic to see TIME acknowledge not only the scale of the engineering challenge, but the real environmental and social benefits Tideway is now delivering for London, the River Thames and the communities along it.”
The TIME piece noted that over more than a decade of construction, the 25km tunnel created 21 connections to London’s original Victorian sewers, enabling sewage to be captured, diverted and treated before it reaches the River Thames.
Since becoming fully operational, the tunnel has already prevented around 20 million tonnes of pollution from entering the river.
The TIME citation also recognised the wider benefits delivered by the project, including the creation of new public parks and art installations along the Thames, helping to reconnect communities with the river.
