Traffic and Road Logistics

Tideway recognise that building a large piece of nationally-significant infrastructure, such as the Tideway tunnel, requires a robust and reliable supply chain. It must also be as safe as it can be.

That is why we are insisting on the highest standards of safety from our suppliers when it comes to transporting materials, plant and equipment to and from our worksites.

Andy Mitchell, CEO

In this section, we set out what our vehicle and driver standards are, and explain why these are important to us. We have produced documents, which you can download, that we believe will aid the supply chain in understanding what their obligations are when undertaking deliveries or collections in relation to our project.

Champions of the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS)

Tideway are Champions of the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS), where all transport providers must be Bronze members at least, before they start work on the project; and attain Silver standard as a minimum after six months of their first project site visit.

You can find out more about FORS here: www.fors-online.org.uk

Champions of Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS)

Tideway are also Champions of the Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS) initiative. Our vehicle and driver standards meet and exceed the minimum terms of compliance with CLOCS.

You can find out more about CLOCS here: www.clocs.org.uk

Traffic Management Schemes (TMS)

Traffic Management Schemes (TMS) are required to enable some construction works to take place. These can include utilities diversions, site access works, and carriageway and footway diversions. Tideway, as a distinct Works Promoter have a unique Street Works Act code (ZE), and this is prefixed to all of our highways works permits issued under the London Permit Scheme (LoPS). There will be a Traffic Management Scheme notice displayed on the perimeter of all project-related TMSs, identifying the permit number with a ‘ZE’ prefix.

London Works Forward Planning Tool

We have identified highways works as far as reasonably practicable well in advance, and these are listed on the London Works Forward Planning Tool, accessible by the public and other Works Promoters and highway authorities. This enables opportunities for collaboration with others, so our contractors can keep works in the highway to a minimum.

For details of all permitted highways works visit http://public.londonworks.gov.uk . Enter ‘Thames Tideway Tunnel’ in the ‘Works Owner’ box to identify project-related highways works.
