History KS3 - Lesson 1: Bazalgette

Here you'll find a resource that asks students to find out the different evidence sources available to them and carry out research into three lines of enquiry:

• Investigate the life of Sir Joseph Bazalgette in order to write his obituary in a Victorian or modern style.

• Research the 'Great Stink' and public health in Victorian London. Use the research to write a campaigning letter calling for a new sewerage system for London in 1858.

• Write a modern newspaper article about Huguenot immigration into London from 1685. If appropriate for your class, students could compare their experiences with modern refugees.
