Shaft roof slab cast at Victoria Embankment

Another milestone has been reached on the ‘super sewer’ project with the shaft roof cast at the Victoria Embankment site in central London.

The roof will form part of the new public space to be created at this location opposite the London Eye - one of seven new areas that will be constructed along the Thames once Tideway’s work to prevent sewage pollution in the river is completed.

The pouring of the shaft roof followed completion of the internal structures. The roof is supported by 17 precast planks on top of three shaft roof beams and a heading beam.

The duration of the works from the installation of planks to the pour was 10 days. The site team is currently constructing the upstands which will give access to openings with ladder entry into the shaft walkway, safety grille and other structures.
