By day the team is working on the architectural and landscape elements of the new piece of public land including a new pergola structure and the three kiosk buildings.
From mid March 2024 the team has also been working at night time. Three years ago, we installed a steel flume, a 30m long large pipe, into the existing sewer to divert the sewage flow while we were constructing the structures and chambers for the new super sewer. That work is complete, so we now are removing the flume. All the works are taking place underground, in the existing sewer system and will include access and egress arrangements, preparation works including silt removal, removal of the upstream and downstream waterproof stop ends and removal of steel flume segments.
Works will take place at night with times dictated by the tides. The work has to be carried out at night. This is when the existing Thames Water assets, such as sluice gates and valves, are in minimal use and may be closed with the flows into the network restricted. This allows for a safe environment for the flume removal works to take place. On the nights when the tides are favourable, we expect to be on site for around 4.5 hours.
Apart from the underground works there may be a number of staff at ground level and the occasional movement of tools. We do not expect the works to generate extra noise.
