Beckton Sewage Treatment Works

Thames Water have constructed a siphon tunnel and two adjacent shafts within Beckton Sewage Treatment Works, for the Tideway project.

The tunnel works at Beckton are complete and the system has passed all tests. Modifications were also made to the control software to align the system with Tideway, which is now live and staffed 24 hours a day.

Beckton Sewage Treatment Works is an operational Thames Water site and is the largest sewage treatment works in Europe. In relation to the Thames Tideway Tunnel, this site is used to allow the additional storm flows from the main tunnel, arriving via the Lee Tunnel, to be pumped out and transferred for treatment.
